ELACERA supplied alumina ceramic spigot liners to a long-standing hydrocyclone customer in Taiwan, China.

Our sales team has known this customer for more than ten years. Over that time, we have maintained contact and developed a good understanding of their business in hydrocyclone equipment.

The customer also shared photographs of hydrocyclones at their site, giving us a clearer view of the equipment and its working environment.

This particular supply involved ceramic components used at the hydrocyclone underflow outlet, commonly known as the spigot or apex.

Why the Spigot Matters

The spigot is a relatively small part of a hydrocyclone, but it works in a demanding position.

As slurry moves through the cyclone, the underflow carries solid particles toward the bottom discharge opening. Continuous contact with abrasive particles can gradually wear the internal surface of the spigot.

As the opening wears and becomes larger, the underflow characteristics may change. This is why maintaining the correct outlet geometry matters, not just selecting a hard material.

For replacement parts, wear resistance and dimensional compatibility need to be considered together.

Alumina ceramic provides a hard, wear-resistant surface for contact with abrasive slurry. The supplied components have shaped internal passages, with their geometry depending on the required outlet arrangement.
